Reston Gateway Kinetic Art Installation

Sarabi Studio was commissioned by Boston properties and Artist/Architect Dan Cheetham of FYOOG to actualize this one of a kind kinetic art piece titled “Where land and sky meet“. The nearly 2,000 wind activated turbines sit atop a gradient of vibrant colors coated over an all stainless steel substructure to provide long term durability. Moving with the wind, organizing with any lack of wind - the piece comes to life at times and draws you in from far away.

This sculpture mimics the experiential quality of the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains as the rolling fog and clouds weave their way through layered peaks and valleys, merging in colorful crescendos at the horizon. A texture of moving turbines flutter with subtle microcurrents of wind suggesting the sculpture has a life of its own.
